Rare and Historic Piece of Taiwanese Baseball History
This hand-colored glass autochrome
from the early 20th century is one of the earliest known baseball images
from China.
Written on one side of the
slide is "Baseball in China." The other side reads: "Canadian Presbyterian
Mission."
The Canadian Presbyterian
Church had two missions in China one in Tamsui, Taiwan and one in North
Honan in mainland China.
Because the North Honan
mission was in a remote location, this picture was most likely taken at
the mission in Taiwan.
