. Upadted November 2002 . In practice Japanese baseball has two Halls of Fame. The official Baseball Hall of Fame is located beneath the Tokyo Dome. Inductees are selected each year by either a selection of sportswriters or special committee. The official Hall of Fame emphasizes leadership over pure playing ability. As a result, many executives, mangers and coaches are enshrined, but a number of great players who never managed have been omitted. To be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame an individual must be retired from active participation in professional baseball for 10 years. . In contrast, membership in the Meikyukai is automatic for any batter reaching 2,000 hits or pitcher with 200 victories. This club holds an annual banquet for members and contains many stars not enshrined in the official Baseball Hall of Fame. . Listed below are the Meikyukai members and Hall of Fame inductees who played in the Japanese professional leagues. College and semi-pro players and non-players are omitted. Click on an individual's name for a short biography and examples of his baseball cards. Many of these cards are for sale.
